An evocative set of songs by Colin Riley from specially-created texts by contemporary writers whose work explores a sense of place.
With roots deep in the loam of language and landscape, vocalist Melanie Pappenheim performs with ensemble, featuring work from Sheffield-based Selina Nwulu, former Young Poet Laureate for London.
Dr Fay Hield will introduce the concert and discuss the songs and research with Colin Riley. Beyond working at the University Fay records and tours with her regular band The Hurricane Party and undertakes special projects such as the recent Full English. The Full English was awarded ‘Best Group’ and ‘Best Album’ in the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and Fay was nominated as ‘Folk Singer of the Year’.
